Art direction and design for a multi-media ad campaign

How It Started: This one was random. I have always been a huge superhero nerd and my favorite superhero is the Batman. So, obviously, I was psyched to discover this incredible audio series, Batman Unburied, on Spotify.

The cast is incredible and the story (no spoilers) is dark and intense in the way only a great Batman story can be. After listening to every episode very quickly, I couldn’t help but imagine these incredible actors in a live action version of these stories. It also occurred to me that I didn’t see anyone talking about this awesome podcast with this amazing crew of A-list actors playing every role.

So I decided to build out a marketing campaign for the podcast – not that anyone asked me to. (Spotify, if you’re reading this, I am happy to make this official.)

To The Bat-Computer

I attacked this project as I do all of my professional projects: lots of Googling.

First, I went looking for all the current marketing done for the podcast, and there was a good amount. I loved what they had so far, but I felt the current marketing lacked much imagery of the actual actors playing the characters. To me, that was such a huge selling point and I thought it was the perfect thing to build on.

The Rogues’ Gallery

I found images of each actor that fit the build for the character they play in the cast and started playing around in photoshop, manipulating and compositing the photos. Once I narrowed in on a look, based on the look already established by Spotify’s promo material, I built the rest of the character imagery. They were made to look slightly different based on the character’s tonal vibe and their iconic color combinations. These are comic book characters after all, they are very iconic.

Conclusion:

This project showcases my ability to merge visual artistry with storytelling, leveraging Photoshop to create compelling imagery that enhances the auditory experience of Batman Unburied. The multi-media approach not only elevates the campaign’s impact but also demonstrates my commitment to innovative and engaging design in the digital age.
